SEMA Show 2010 – MX-5 Super20

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the MX-5 has been re-imagined with a darker, edgier attitude in the MX5 Super20. It’s a purposeful combination of street-tough style and motorsports-inspired attributes. This third generation vehicle acknowledges the iconic first-gen iteration with modifications such as a supercharged Cosworth engine, small diameter wheels, more substantial tire profile and wider fenders.

Additional modifications include a DPTune reflashed ECU, Racing Beat 304-stainless steel header and exhaust, ACT organic street clutch, MAZDASPEED coil overs, Racing Beat hollow front and rear anti-roll bars, MAZDASPEED shock tower brace, Power Slot slotted brake rotors, StopTech DOT-compliant stainless steel brake lines and street performance brake pads, SpeedSource front brake ducts, 16×9 Enkei RPF1 wheels wrapped with 245/45-R16 Toyo Proxes RA-1 R-compound tires, 20mm H&R Trak+ hubcentric bolt-on wheel spacers in the rear and 15mm Sparco hubcentric wheel spacers up front.

Take A Seat

Although we’ve been offering these upholstery-grade seat replacement seat covers for the past few years we never got around to actually installing a set on our Racing Beat Miata. Since our 1990 Miata seats were looking rather worn we decided to finally install a set on our own car. We now have some great photos (with more to follow) of the replacement covers installed on the original seats. These covers are a great deal at only $289.00/pair (including shipping). Make your Miata seats look brand new again!!

Mazda 2 Performance Parts Fitting Session

While we had the car we took the opportunity to configure a replacement muffler, evaluate the suspension, and inspect the intake system for possible modifications. We quickly constructed a couple of muffler units, test fitted some suspension springs we had pre-ordered from our supplier in Japan, and disassembled the intake tract for a thorough inspection. Time quickly ran out on our fitting session and we had to but the car back together and return it to its corporate home. We’ll likely offer several new parts for this vehicle in the coming months, we’ll post more later as work continues.

Racing Beat recently had an opportunity to spend a few days driving Mazda’s latest offering, the 2011 Mazda2. While not considered the most performance-minded vehicle in Mazda’s stable, this fun little car may have some tunable performance potential lurking beneath it’s eye-popping metallic lime green paint.
